- Dear List Members,
Pascale shared the Museum of London site with World
Art Teachers. I have been having fun exploring the
Here is just one feature - "Eastward Ho" and "Home
Again" - two paintings that tell a story about Indian
Artist: Henry O'Neil
I know "Eastward Ho" has been shown in history text
books. I imagine "Home Again" has been used, too.
One way history teachers can use paintings like these
is to project them on a large screen or white sheet -
then have students act them out - telling what is
happening, taking on the mood/emotions of the people
in the paintings. These paintings tell us a lot about
Victorian costume as well.
Here are more paintings by Henry Nelson O'Neil

Same painting as NPG - larger image available
O'Neil is not listed by Artcyclopedia - there are a
few more works by him online and some biographical
Hands-on art lesson: Have students do a painting
recording an event from their lives. They could work
from family photographs, if desired.
Museum of London also tells the history of London
through craft. I browsed the ceramics collection.
