      Dear Art Educators

Last week we had a thread on making projects from telephone wire on one of
the lists. I posted some links for jewelry. Deb asked me for more details.
Have any of you woven jewelry or baskets (or anything) with wire?

      From Deb dmortl@... :

      >>I was looking at one of the links you sent on weaving wire to make a pin.
Have you done this? The website gave a full lesson, but not specific
instructions. It said to cut short pieces of wire to weave in, but then do
you think all the fringe ends are loose for every row? How do you keep the
wire from sliding out? I'd like to try it, but even if you weave in the
traditional way the wire would not be as tight as yarn, I would think. Do
      you have any advice?

Here are the wire jewelry links I posts:
Here are some lesson plans I found online:
      http://jeffcoweb.jeffco.k12.co.us/isu/art/wovenwire.html
      http://www.hawaii.edu/hga/Lessons/jewelry.html (this one uses uninsulated
wire - but you could experiment with the telephone wire).
Here is a plan by Getty list member Kimberly Hutts:

You could combine the telephone wire with scraps of tooling foil.
Combine with clay beads or paper beads - Sculpy clay (or Fimo)

Maybe you could go to a local craft stroe and leaf through the book Making
Wire Jewelry to get some ideas.

      Cher Art Educators
