      Our district has a practice of re-writing curriculum on the same
      cycle as textbook adoption - every ten years. Other content area
      groups (math, English, etc.,) send a representative committee of
      about 15 teachers to work on the process over the span of that year.
      They meet five or six times and subs are hired to cover their
      classrooms. No additional pay was offered because developing program
      is considered a professional responsibility.

      For the Fine Arts/Foreign Language Departments, we're small enough
      that every art, music, and language teacher was required to attend.
      Since there is one teacher for each of our secondary schools and 2
      1/2 elementary positions, we collaborated to a point, but
      essentially wrote our own curricula. It was an interesting process,
      with my favorite part - divvying up available funding - at the end.
