Speaking as a former school administrator in the past, most, if not all teachers were called back when school started the following year. This is because they play it safe when it comes to budgeting. However, we are in unique times now. Many states are close to bankruptcy and federal funds are drying up. Many districts are now eliminating their art programs. This may change in a future time if the economy turns around but that doesn't seem likely for awhile.
If it were me, I would begin applying for other jobs outside the field of education. I would enroll as a substitute teacher for several neighboring districts in the event you have trouble getting a job in this terrible employment climate.
