    Quilting A Story

Gabrielle Kanter, Director of The Arts located in Stockton , NJ , is spreading the word about community all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania through her Make A Story Quilt artist in residence project.  Students at participating schools learn how to make their own unique square that goes into creating a vibrant  one-of-a-kind group quilt that, upon completion, becomes a permanent work of art installed at the school or is auctioned for school fundraisers.

Gabrielle, who is a professional artist and teacher with an extensive background in working with students of all ages, levels and abilities, has worked with students in kindergarten thru 12th grade to create Story Quilts.  During visits to a school, Gabrielle helps students make colorful drawings and paintings on fabric that represent something about themselves as a way to show each student as a unique and individual part of their overall school community.

Students at Robert B. Jaggard Elementary in Marlton , NJ   New Hope -Solebury Elementary in New Hope , PA  Mt.Olive Middle School in Budd Lake , NJ and The Calais School in Whippany , NJ have all taken great pride in having the opportunity to contribute their individual artworks to a lasting expression of community life at their school for everyone to enjoy. The program is available to NJ schools upon request through the Young Audiences of NJ. www.yanj.org (609)243-9000.  PA schools can contact Gabrielle directly at The Arts. www.TheArtsStockton.com  (609) 773-0207, TheArtsStocton@....  Additional school quilt images can also be seen on The Arts website.
