      I have several 3rd grade classes this year that have a hard time listening and following instructions. The PE and Music specialists are also having a difficult time with these classes. Does anyone have ideas or lesson plans to teach these skills! Thanks!

        Hi Jeri,

        I feel your pain! There is a book called "The Surprise in the Middle" that has students follow teacher instructions, they draw a picture, and then finish it off in their own way.

        I write the steps for each of my lessons out and have students refer to the directions. That way they know what to do next, or where to find the information if they forget. This has cut down on my craziness and I rarely have behavior issues because kids know what to do. Hope that helps, Ali B. NNY

        I do a song and dance routine to get my students to listen. Actually not literally~ I made a video called the Listen Plea. I play it and then ask the students

          Actually not literally~ I made a video called the Listen Plea.

          I play it and then ask the students to take notes on what a good listener does (which is spelled out in the video)

          They like it and get the message right away.
