      Dear Art Educators,

Some of you might be interested in this article in New York Times.

The Tableau Vivant Is Alive and Well and Living in Laguna Beach
      By MIREYA NAVARRO
"The two-month-long Pageant of the Masters includes 40 art pieces,
weaving a magic that is a welcome palliative to the freneticism of
      modern-day entertainment."
      http://www.nytimes.com/pages/arts/design/index.html

You will have to subscribe to read the article and see the slide show
of some of this year's "living paintings" (not all paintings). The
Living Paintings feature of the Festival had its start in 1932. Many
of the participants are children. Tableaus can range in size up to 35
feet wide and 14 feet high.

For those of you who do not wish to subscribe, you can find out more
about the event from this site:
      http://www.foapom.com/index.asp
There are some still images and a short video on the site. You will
also find a list of the art that is presented this year.

Many have done Living Paintings with their students - although not on
this grand scale. You will find this activity on Incredible Art
Department - Art History ideas page.

      Regards,
