Aaadhar gets a boost in this budget: A bit like putting cars in everyone's hut before we imagine the roads!
- The Union Budget 2011-12 laid special emphasis on improving governance through Unique ID (UID). While presenting the Budget Mukherjee said that the UID Mission has taken off and Aadhaar numbers are being generated in large numbers. So far 20 lakh Aadhaar numbers have been given and from 1st October 2011, ten lakh numbers would be generated per day. The stage is now set for realising the potential of Aadhaar for improving service delivery, accountability and transparency in governance of various schemes.
The budget includes IT initiatives for efficient tax administration. These include e-filing and e-payment of taxes, adoption of ‘Sevottam’ concept by CBEC and CBDT, web based facility for tax payers to track the resolution of refunds and credit for pre-paid taxes and augmentation of processing capacity. FM stated that the small tax payers who fall within the scope of presumptive taxation can utilize the new simplified form Sugam.To fast track the disposal of cases related to taxation by the settlement commission, three more Benches of the Commission would be set up, shortly.The FM said that steps are being initiated to reduce litigation and focus attention on high revenue cases. He said that instructions have been issued raising limit of tax effects below which, tax disputes will not be pursued by government in higher courts of appeal.
