      Lone teacher manages school

      Dear friends,

Please see a video report by Bhan Sahu- Lone teacher manages school

      http://indiaunheard.videovolunteers.org/bhan/lone-teachermanages-school/

Bhan Sahu is a leader of Jurmil Morcha, a people’s organization fighting for rights & justice. She lives in a tribal dominated block of Ambagarh Chouki, Rajnandgaon district, CG. She is a widow, mother of two children and belongs to a poor family. She is only eighth pass, but I must say that enlightened enough as per her surroundings and exposures. She is an effective orator, a capable organizer and represents her organization as a founder member of Chattisgarh Visthapan Virodhi Manch, a state level forum of people’s organisations and individuals struggling against displacement

Bhan Sahu is also a well known name for CG Net Swara listeners; a phone based unique news service becoming popular among poor & deprived masses that have no access to or ignored by mainstream media. Thanks to CG Net Swara which has provided a great opportunity to prove her hidden potential.

      Now days, Bhan Sahu is also learning to make video news reports to focus people’s issues & concerns and that too by a cheapest camera. I would like to share my note on her second video news report appeared in India unheard as its correspondent;

Chhattisgarh government claims about its sincerity and commitments towards providing primary education to all children of the state. But the fact tells a different story.

Bhan Sahu made a video report on the same focusing a remote village of Pangari (Tatekasa Gram Panchayat of Ambagarh Chouki block of Rajnandgaon district) as an example. Primary school at Pangari came into existence under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) which clearly states that there should be at least two class rooms with verandah to every primary school with at least two teachers.

But on the contrast of SSA rules, the primary school of Pangari is being run by only one teacher who has to teach all subjects to students from class 1 to class 5. And it is not the end. The same teacher has to perform extra teaching duties assigned to him one after another by the government. Obviously, whenever he moves outside the village on government duties, the school remains closed- no education at all. It’s a clear violation of right to education to every child.

In this scenario, there is no option but to reach private run schools. But this option is limited to few as the majority of habitants of the village live bellow poverty line facing the very question of survival. They can not afford to pay fees of private schools and in turn their children are forced to be enrolled in village school to get little education and absolute carelessness.

Villagers made several requests to appoint one more teacher to streamline education but their voices remained unheard. As per the government records, Rajnandgaon district has 76% rural literacy. Exposing plight of education in rural areas, Bhan Sahu marks questions on the quality of education those 76% received.

It’s the right of Pangari children to get proper education and not to be ignored. District administration should follow the SSA rules and appoint more teachers in primary school of Pangri .

Can somebody help in this regard?

sorry all. i did think that the school in deepak's film was located in madhya pradesh but slipped up and typed chattisgarh.

RE his point about "single teacher" schools, i was pointing to one more film that, whatever its main content might be, is also located in another such school in madhya bharat.

last point. my recommendation that people exert themselves to get to see it gains strength from deepak's point that the film is focused on innovative teaching methods.

            Dear Meher,

            just wanted to correct

"teachers journey is a film" - which was done in the form of documentation of innovative classroom teaching practices of a primary school teacher. it is a kind of a personal journey of the teacher that he underwent to actually become The Teacher. for the film - single teacher scenario was not the situation but just a part of the whole story.

another thing is that "teachers journey" is located in Madhya Pradesh not in Chhatisgarh.

if you want to know more about the film please go through the academic review done on the film in "contemporary education dialogue".
