Electricity board’s bizarre privilege to politicians in UP; Rs 1.5cr bill pending

Lucknow: Usually people take utmost care of paying the electricity bill prior to the due date but, if in case it remains due for couple of months or three, it by default turns a headache for very commoner as electricity department can scissor your line anytime soon. But the case is complete reverse for our politicians. Though, they are not exempted of paying the electricity bill but they are not even asked to pay it! It is exposed recently that a whopping Rs 1.5 crores of electricity bill is due on MP’s and MLA’s in the Uttar Pradesh state to which no action has been initiated yet.

Electricity department can cut the power supply, can issue notice or even can take legal action if a commoner fails to pay few thousands due on him in form of electricity bill. Not only an individual, the department is enough stringent against the educational and medical institutions like schools, colleges and hospitals. But the uneven gesture honored to these politicians, whose bill amount of Rs 1,49,38,588 is due, is something very much bizarre for everyone. Thecomplete chapter shocks us more as the information has been revealed through the government’s Right To Information (2005) act.

An RTI filed by social worker and engineer Sanjay Sharma reveals that electricity bill of MLA’s living in houses constructed in ‘Vidhayak Niwas-5’, ‘Buttler Palace’ and ‘Maal Avenue’ is unpaid.

Sanjay has filed an RTI application in May, 2013 to know the individual information of MLA’s but he has been provided with the information of their houses. Sanjay says that he will re-appeal to get his desired information.

Electricity Bills pending on various addresses at Buttler Palace are as follows:

      Vidhayak Niwas: Rs 79,68,711 pending
Buttler Palace house number A-1/BPC: Rs 6,94,362 pending
Buttler Palace house number A-2/BPC: Rs 2,49,041 pending
Buttler Palace house number A-21/BPC: Rs 54,960 pending
Buttler Palace house number C-11/BPC: Rs 56,447 pending
Buttler Palace house number A-4 /BPC: Rs 3,29,410 pending

Electricity Bills pending on various addresses at Maal Avenue are as follows:

House Number B-302: Rs 8,54,096 pending
House Number B-102: Rs 9,82,442 pending
House Number AG-2: Rs 1,42,798 pending
House Number 203: Rs 3,56,843 pending
House Number A-101: Rs 12,66,788 pending
House Number A-202: Rs 2,334 pending
House Number A-203: Rs 15,80,832 pending
House Number A-303: Rs 1,06,100 pending
House Number BG-3: Rs 1,97,015 pending
House Number A-103: Rs 96,409 pending

According to information provided by PWD department, house number BG-1 is the only house in ‘Maal Avenue’ of which no bill is pending.
