You were not willfully ignored, but the request came at a particularly busy time.  Ask W7BOZ, it is not uncommon for weather alerts to completely surround a particular area and not light up a small slice.  His valley, for instance, doesn't get nearly as many alerts as the surrounding mountains, and the NWS IS that selective about what zones get mentioned.

I suspect that all is WAD (Working As Designed), but alerts for the one particular zone were probably not issued.

If you know what the alert was and what office issued it, you can search aprs.fi for messages or raw packets with the appropriate source call.  If you find one that you think should have lit up an area, please send me the packet and what zone you think should have lit up but didn't and I'll check it out.

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and never got a response. We were in the middle of a severe weather warning, and I received the messages. All surrounding counties turned yellow except my county, which had no color at all. I added a screenshot, but no one replied. I am hoping that they will reply to your question and I can see if mine is working as well.

Good luck with your tests, and please keep us informed on what you find.

I am trying to get weather alerts setup. I followed the Wiki instructions: firenet setup, shape files downloaded and add / active, and weather office (HGX) added. If I do a "showme" I get shapes appearing and I can also pop-up the area for HGX.

      Filter currently is: filter -s/w -e/WXSVR-AU p/HGX

I just got an alert and the chat opened. But shouldn't I get a shape or something in addition? All I got was a chat comment about server weather.

When I clicked on the upper right to get the alert it brought up a dialog with 3 buttons. How do I get back to that dialog? What do each of those buttons do?

I expect more alerts tonight so it is a good time for me to experiment.
