GA 103 - The Gospel of St. John
- Well, this is my next contribution in English translation to the
Twelve lectures given in Hamburg, May 18-31, 1908. Translated
by Maud B. Monges.
Interestingly, this translator has what I would call a trans-atlantic
language style -- there are British and American elements in the
spelling, like 'colour' and 'splendor' (vs, 'color' and 'splendor')
side by side with 'vitalization' and 'realization' (vs. vitalisation'
This type of language mixture is much more more pronounced in a
Norwegian translation of GA 145 that I just contributed: Haag 20-29
March 1913, "What kind of meaning does the does humanity's occult
development have for one's members physical body, etheric body,
astral body and one's Self?" This translation is not a hundred per
cent Norwegian but Danish-Norwegian in spelling, grammar, and syntax
which is exceptionally confused and chaotic in this case --
technically, mind you. This has to do with the history of the
Norwegian language through the 20th century, which is unique. But the
translator, who was probably around my present age some fifty years
ago or more, and probably learned to write as a child prior to 1905,
may personally have attended some of Steiner's lectures, and what
comes across amidst the language chaos is a very keen grasp of this
deep esoteric subject.
Scandinavian readers may enjoy this version of GA 145 online here:
But now let's get on with GA 103 -- the twelve lectures on the John
Gospel from 1908. I think these lectures elaborate on many subjects
that we have been discussing here from time to time in our more
serious moments, like the Lazarus-John individuality for instance, the
author of the John Gospel and of the Apocalypse.
- I have recently joined this group and just did a search for Uffe on the off chance he'd be here - knowing what I know of your opinions on scientology Uffe this really made me laugh!!
Not sure if you still log into this forum, maybe not, but I hope you are well in any case.
