Very smart piece on Emmerich
- Here follows a link to a very
intelligent piece on (the possible
Brentano damage done to)Anne Catherine
First note THIS from the bottom
of the page:
Additionally, in the Jan. 11, 2001 issue of the Wanderer (Catholic
Replies column, p. 3),
"Emmerich's cause for beatification came to a halt in 1928 after it
was discovered that Clemens Brentano, the man who compiled her
visions into a book in 1833, 'had fabricated almost all the material
attributed to her.' German bishops and the Augustinan order succeeded
in getting the cause revived in 1979 by ignoring the question of
whether her revelations were authentic and concentrating instead on
her personal sanctity and her mystical gifts.
The problem with the Dolorous Passion and the books that were
compiled from Brentano's notes after his death (the Life of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, the four-volume Life of Jesus Christ and
Biblical Revelations, and the Life of Anne Catherine Emmerich), says
Sandra Miesel, is that they are ridden with historical errors and
fanciful descriptions, and there is no way of distinguishing between
Emmerich's contribution and Brentano's."
