      THE "CALENDAR OF THE SOUL"

Here is the Soul-Calendar verse for this week in German and in English,
with the Moon's position in the stars for each night and some of the birth &
death days of famous persons (saints, etc.) which Steiner published with the
first Seelencalendar in 1912 (Im in process of translating them to restore
the Calendar to its intended use with its spiritual-historical, solar and
      lunar connections).

In addition to a mantram for each week of the year, in the original were
12 drawings of the zodiac to be meditated on, to sense the spiritual working
of the solar forces in the cosmos in the daytime monthly. The Moon's position
in the constellations each night was to sense the lunar forces each evening.
The Sun, according to the Doctor, is under the influence of Aquarius from
Feb. 9th to March 8th. (Unfortunately we cannot send the 12 images through
this medium as yet.) The Moon positions are listed daily.

      *******46th Week after Easter.
Die Welt, sie drohet zu betuben
      Der Seele eingeborene Kraft;
      Nun trete du, Erinnerung,
      Und strke mir das Schauen,
      Das nur durch Willenskrfte
      Sich selbst erhalten kann.

The World, it threatens to benumb
      The Souls inborn strength;
      Now tread you, Memory,
      Out of Spirit-Deeps enlightening
And make strong for me Vision,
      That only through Will-Strength
      Can preserve itself.

For those not familiar with the use of mantrams:

Anthroposophy is a Western path of knowledge which begins with reading of
books and use of the ordinary logical mind; then, an intensification process
can be begun by the use of visual images Steiner gave out called
"Imaginations" and reciting mantras or combinations of words which leads a
step higher to "Inspirations." The 12 signs of the Zodiac, for instance, are
      Imaginations.

The meaning of the words of a mantra as read at first sight is not the
essential thing, but rather the repetitive recitation of them and entering
with deeper soul-forces into the inner experience of what is described.

Also, the mantrams were created in the German language and have their
rhythm from this, so that learning an English version is just a step to
learning to use the real mantram in the original, which is much preferred.
(Chanting "the jewel in the lotus" is very different from "Om mani padme
hum.") Steiner spoke often of the specialness of the German tongue, and how
it had preserved words lost by other Indo-Aryan languages, and said that it
could become what Sanscrit was in old Vedic times: the language in which
spirit-truths are expressed. In translating, I have tried to keep close to
the original so that one can most easily step from the English to the German.

Note. This year Easter comes late, where last year it came early, with the
result that there is a gap of several weeks before the new soul-calendar
mantrams begin April 23rd. One strategy is to simply continue the 52nd verse
for a few weeks, or other verses may be taken up in the interim.

Here’s the Soul-Calendar verse for the 5th week after Easter, in German

Out of narrow Selfhood’s Inner Might.

In addition to the mantrams, the first Soul-Calendar contained 12
drawings of the zodiac to be meditated on to sense the working of the solar
forces in the cosmos in the daytime, and the Moon's position in the
constellations was given for each night, to sense the lunar forces. The Sun,
according to the Doctor, is under the influence of Taurus from May 1st to
June 15th in our era. The symbolic image of the constellation Taurus is
attached to this post. The Moon positions and phases are listed below for
each night, along with some of the birth & death days of famous persons
published in the original ‘Seelencalendar’: their lives and contributions are
fruitful material for contemplation on their days. I’m translating these to
restore the Calendar to its intended use with the full spiritual/solar/lunar
              connections.

SUNDAY May 21st. Moon Capricornus. Albrecht Dürer born 1471.
MONDAY May 22nd. Moon Capricornus. Richard Wagner born 1813.
TUESDAY May 23rd. Moon Aquarius. Savanarola burnt at the stake 1498.
WEDNESDAY May 24th. Moon Aquarius. Copernicus died 1543. Lord Bulwer-
              Lytton born 1803.
THURSDAY May 25th. Moon Pisces. Laying of the Foundation Stone of the
              Strassbourg Monastery 1277.
FRIDAY May 26th. Moon Pisces. The Venerable Bede (famous English monk of
              the 8th century).
SATURDAY May 27th. Moon Aries. Maria of Magdala. Dante born 1265. Calvin
              died 1564.

For those not familiar with the use of mantras:
Anthroposophy is a Western path of knowledge which begins with the use of
the logical mind, then an intensification process by use of visual images
called "Imaginations", and reciting mantras which lead to "Inspirations."
The meaning of the words of a mantra at first sight is not the essential
thing, but rather the repetitive recitation of them and entering with deeper
soul forces into the inner experience of what is described. Also, these
mantras were created in the German language and have their rhythm in it, so
learning an English version is just a step to using the mantram in the
original. (Chanting "the jewel in the lotus" is different from "Om mani padme

                THIS WEEK’S SOUL-CALENDAR
Here’s the Soul-Calendar verse for the 8th week after Easter, in German
and English. Spiritual Science’s Soul-Calendar is 52 meditative verses
designed to enable one to experience the astral or soul events occurring both
within us and in the astral “atmosphere” of Earth in the course of the year.

                * T H E M A N T R A *
                Es wächst der Sinne Macht
Im Bunde mit der Götter Schaffen,
                Sie drückt des Denkens Kraft
                Zur Traumes Dumpfheit mir herab.
                Wenn göttlich Wesen
                Sich meiner Seele einen will,
                Muss menschlich Denken
                Im Traumessein sich still bescheiden.

                There waxes the Senses’ Might
In Union with the Gods’ Shaping,
                It draws my Thinking’s Power
                Down to Dream Dimness.
                When godly Essence
With my soul would become one,
                Must Man’s Thinking
Quietly humble itself to Dream-existence .

                * T H E W E E K *

In addition to the mantrams, the original Soul-Calendar contained 12
drawings of the zodiac to be meditated on to sense the working of the solar
forces in the cosmos in the day, and the Moon's position in the
constellations was given for each night to sense the lunar forces. The Sun,
according to the Doctor, is under the influence of Taurus until June 15th in
our era, when it begins to fall under the influence of Gemini. The symbolic
image of Taurus executed from sketches & indictaions by the Doctor, is
attached to this post. The Moon positions and phases are listed below for
each night, along with some of the birth & death days of famous persons
published in the first ‘Seelencalendar’: their lives and contributions are
fruitful material for contemplation on their days. I’m translating these to
restore the Calendar to its intended use with the full spiritual/solar/lunar
                connections.

SUNDAY June11th. Moon Libra. Whitsunday (Pentecost). Alexander the
Great died 323 B.C. Roger Bacon died 1294.
MONDAY June 12th. Moon Libra. Basilides.
TUESDAY June 13th. Moon Scorpius. Alfred.
WEDNESDAY June 14th. Moon Scorpius. Basilius.
THURSDAY June 15th. Moon Sagittarius. Vitus.
FRIDAY June 16th. Moon Sagittarius. Full Moon. Aurelius.
SATURDAY June 17th. Moon Capricornus. Montanus.

For those not familiar with the use of mantras:
Anthroposophy is a Western path of knowledge which begins with the use of
the logical mind, which is then intensified by the use of visual images
called "Imaginations" and reciting mantras which lead to "Inspirations." The
meaning of the words of a mantra at first sight is not the essential thing,
but rather the repetitive recitation of it and entering with deeper soul
forces into the inner experience of what is described. Also, these mantras
were created in the German language and have their rhythms in it, so learning
an English version is just a first step to using the mantram in the original.
(Chanting "the jewel in the lotus" is different from "Om mani padme hum!")
Steiner spoke of how German had preserved words lost by other Indo Aryan
languages, and could be what Sanskrit was in olden times: the language in
which spirit-truths are expressed. So in translating, I’ve tried to keep
close to the original so that one can easily go from English to German.

Sorry, don't know what you mean by "current" Calendar of the Soul. The original 1912 'Calendar' was 52 mantrams, 12 zodiac images, and a listing of the days of the week with spiritual figures connected to the days, along with the Moon's position in the signs for each night. To my knowledge there is nowhere this can be bought. As far as the truncated books that pass for the Soul-Calendar today, you can get any number of collections of the 52 verses with various English translations, such as from the Anthroposophic Press; all 52 mantras with several translations are also found on the Anthroposophy Network's site.

                             The "Calendar of the Soul"

Dr. Steiner gave out the 'Calendar of the Soul' , 52 meditative mantras, to enable us to experience the 'astral' (soul) events occurring within and in Nature during the year. These are well known to many anthroposophists---- but the original Calendar also had 12 Images of the Zodiac, to be meditated with each month to sense the working of the 'solar' forces in the cosmos in the day, a listing of the Moon's phases & position in the signs each night (for sensing the 'lunar' forces), and a list of saints and other spiritual figures connected with specific days.
Here's the whole 'Soul-Calendar' restored to how it was originally meant to be used.

This week and through April 20th we are  in a most interesting time, when the last verse of the 'Soul-Calendar'  has been reached, but it's still several weeks before we start with the first verse of the new, there being a late Easter this year. This whole time therefore falls into a time of the change from going out into the cosmos and then drawing in from it again, as can be experienced by meditatively working with the ending and beginning verses.

COMPARISON OF FIRST AND LAST VERSES
of the Calendar of the Soul

                          Wenn aus den Seelentiefen
Der Geist sich wendet zu dem Weltensein
                          Und Schonheit quillt aus Raumesweiten,
                          Dann zieht aus Himmelsfernen
                          Des Lebens Kraft in Menschenleiber
                          Und einet, machtvoll wirkend,
Des Geistes Wesen mit dem Menschensein.

When out of the Soul's Deeps
The Spirit wends its way to World-Being
And Beauty swells into the widths of Space,
Then is drawn from farthest Heavens
The Life Force into human bodies
And there becomes one, mightily working,
The Spirit's Essence and Man's being.

                          Gedanken in die Raumesfernen
                          Und binden dumpf
Des Menschen Wesen und des Geistes Sein.

When out of the Wide World
The Sun speaks to Man's Senses
And Joy out of Soul's Depths
Becomes one with Light in vision,
Then is drawn from the Ego's Sheath
                          Thinking into farthest Worlds
                          And joins, dimly,
Man's Essence and the Spirit's Being.

This time of year we receive the Life Force from the returning Sun at Easter. The spirit within goes out into the universe and connects with that Source, from which the new life force will start flowing at Eastertide. Then we'll begin the Easter mood of 'resurrection' of our life forces, as, in our depths, our Spirit forms its annual connection with the Cosmos once again---after having withdrawn into the Earth in winter---and the etheric body is renewed through this connection to the World Spirit.

                          Sich selbst erschaffend stets,

                          In Selbsterkenntnis neu belebt
                          Und schafft aus Seelenfinsternis
                          Des selbstsinns Willensfrucht .

                          In continually shaping one's Self,
                          Soul's Being becomes of itself aware;
                          The World-Spirit, it strives forward
                          In Self-Knowledge newly living
                          And shapes out of Soul-Darkness
                          The Self-sense's Will-Fruit.
