I have recently been reading a newly released work 'The Secret
Stream' a collection of Steiner's essays on Rosicrucianism.
It's a deep and spiritual work, probably one of the best and most
inspiring things I've read on Rosicrucian ideas.
I am wondering where Steiner got his Rosicrucian teachings from ? Did
he claim an initiation or contact with a particular Rosicrucian group
or tradition ? I believe he had some association with Theodor Reuss's
OTO, but ceased contact with that group.
I am not sure why - maybe he tired of the the sectarian warfare going
on between the various neo-Rosicrucian groups at the time ? - which
was mainly about the authenticity of lineages and degrees.
Also, the gentleman who recommended the book to me, at London's
famous Atlantis Bookshop, said that many of Steiner's deeper occult
teachings were not revealed as they could be easily misunderstood.
      Is this the case ?

*******I'm sure you'll get many different answers to that. From my point of view, what we call
'rosicrucianism' is a new sort of mystical path that grew out of Christianity in the past 600 years or so, and it invlolves what is called the White Brotherhood, spiritual beings that can be contacted by anyone anywhere. Steiner contacted them, not one of the so-called 'rosicrucian' orders like the silly people in California, which have nothing to do with the actual Brotherhood. And the actual 'teachings' of rosicrucianism involve a learning to know things in a completely new way that can't be communicated like regular information, so in that sense what the fellow said is true, that his deeper occult teachings were not 'revealed'. They can't be written down. What can be written you'll find as exercises to do in Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and An Outline of Occult Science.

        Ben,

Steiner met Christian Rosencreutz in the spiritual world. His spiritual
research is all his own work with the actual beings and people in the spirit
        world.

He is the 'prophet' of the fifth post-Atlantean epoch, and has told us the
story from the beginning to the end of mankind and the story of the life
between death and rebirth and a whole lot more besides.

He knew so much that it was inevitable that he did not have chance to tell
it all, but an amount of it would hinder rather than help us develop, as for
example elementary mathematics was top secret with Pythagoras.

        Regards,

        John.

          Hi Ben

one example of non revealed occult truth is the role of food in education.
Steiner mentioned that half of the education in a Waldorf School would be
the food, different appropriate diet. But he added that he was not willing
to go into this as this could so easily be misused.

*******There is a wondereful lady Waldorf teacher who's written a book about this though, about how to use the dietary inclinations of the four temperaments and also some herbs. Herbs in Nutrition by Maria Geuter, I believe.
