about. It is the spirit self (a 6th epoch condition) which can't tune
out another's pain. Rather the consciousness soul is about the "I am"
learning to know the true and the good (i.e. connect with the Eternal),
through developing independent moral insight. Consciousness soul
development is 5th epoch (where we are today). (See Steiner's Theosophy)
In the West, the consciousness soul appears instinctively in the
political-legal sphere, so that what Starman, with his usual
condescending over generalizations, fails to observe, is that all manner
of political activity (anti-war, or pro-war, anti-globalization,
environmentalism) is due to the "I am" struggling with individual moral
questions as these present themselves through social issues. World wide
this appears as Civil Society, or Cultural Creatives, or as I have
described in my political writing - Citizen Governance in the USA. (See
Steiner's The Challenge of the Times).
