Buffy and Giles are together, having worked through things by using
lyrics back and forth to each other. Now that they're together, how
will the gang handle it and, more specifically, what will they do
      about an obsessed Spike?

"So here we are again," Xander muttered, looking around the club. He
couldn't believe that it had been less than two months since they
had been dragged to the new rock club by Willow and Tara to discover
      Giles fronting a rock band.

Now he was married to Buffy, becoming very popular in the local
music scene and had settled into the Summers house after some minor
      adjustments.

"Are you still wigging about Giles and Buff being together?" Willow
complained, taking a sip of her soda.

"No, I'm getting used to that," Xander shook his head with a slight
blush. "They don't make out in front of me so I'm getting used to
it. It's the… the rock thing."

Tara smirked at Xander's discomfort. "I think it's cute!"

"Cute? G-Man isn't supposed to be cute! He's… he's Giles," Xander
      complained.

"I think he's very sexy," Anya agreed as Tara and Willow
giggled. "The rock-star persona suits him nicely. I can see why he
was very popular in his youth."

"Youth! That's just it! He's not young anymore!" Xander hissed.

"Xander, give it a rest," Willow said irritably. "Giles is younger
than our fathers and they love each other very much. Just let it go
already. He's younger than the Stones, Bowie and some of the others
      you listen to."

"Okay, okay," Xander mumbled. "Where is Buffy anyway? Shouldn't she
be here watching her hubby onstage?"

"She's here every night since he started playing again," Tara said
softly. "He plays, she goes out and slays and comes back in time for
      the last set."

"We all have dinner every night, help Dawnie with her homework and
then he comes to the club," Willow added. "Even the social worker
only frowned a little at them being married with the age difference
and him playing in a rock club."

"And he's at the shop frequently during the day," Anya smiled. "He's
a very stable parental type now for a rock star."

"That's what the social worker said," Tara smiled. "She's also
pleased with Buffy got that part time job at the new highschool and
going back to college next semester."

"So, again I ask, where is Buff?" Xander asked.

"Not sure, she just said to be here," Willow smiled, leaning against
Tara's shoulder, interlacing her fingers with the witch.

The group wasn't surprised this time when the band moved up onto the
stage and Giles was in front. In his typical "rock" clothes, Xander
did have to admit his mentor and father-like figure did look good.
Jeans, boots, tight t-shirt, white dress shirt, sunglasses with
leather vest, Giles looked something like Bob Seger without the
      beard, the young man reflected.

Ripper made the introductions of the band and launched them into a
set that included, White Zombie's I'm Your Boogie Man, Prodigy, and
Soul Asylum. Then the band took a break and the young group was
puzzled when Giles didn't come out and join them.

When Ripper retook the stage he grinned spotting the Scooby gang in
      the audience.

"Got a special treat for you tonight, mates," Ripper smiled. "We've
had some request since the last time she appeared on stage,
especially since I came back. Give a hand to my girl and be nice!"

Xander blinked and Willow's mouth dropped open in surprise.

"I… I thought we only got Buffy on s-stage last time because she was
      losing Giles," Tara whispered.

Willow nodded. "I… I didn't think she'd ever get near a stage again!"

Buffy was dressed very similar to the way she had before, wrap
around skirt, high boots, peasant top that rested off of the
shoulders. Her hair was up but loose, giving her a wild and sensual
appearance along with her well-done makeup for the stage lights.

"You probably haven't heard this one," Ripper smiled as Buffy
approached him, the energy between the couple obvious to even the
drunkest among the crowd. "It's from a popular television show.
Hope you enjoy, we like it between us."

Buffy smiled and pulled Ripper's sunglasses off, stealing them for
herself as he laughed. She turned to the microphone and the band
started low music with a captivating beat.

I'm a candle in the wind, my future flickers before my eyes
I'm too restless to be satisfied with silence, so I'll push further
      through the night

Giles moved beside his wife, sharing the microphone, his guitar
      between them.

Say you want to put me out, that I'm wrong, know I've heard
      those lies before
Cause inside just keeps burning, just won't stand it anymore

Buffy leaned up to kiss him lightly.

You came along; you pulled me up when I was down
The way you made me feel just took me by surprise

Ripper smiled gently as he looked past the sunglasses into her blue
      eyes.

You took my hand, you stole my heart, you fed the fire
When you moved with me, you gave me back my life

Together they moved into the chorus, the depth of their emotions
ringing through the club as everyone swayed to the music but was
quiet, listening to the lyrics and watching the interplay of the
      lovers.

Let the spirit move me, let the spirit move me
Let your spirit move me, let your spirit move me
Let the spirit move me, let the spirit move me
      (Tara's Dance, Joseph Lo Duca)

"Wow!" Tara said softly. "That was…"

      "Hot!" Anya supplied. "Very hot!"

      "Oh God!" Xander mumbled.

Ripper smiled and took his sunglasses back from Buffy and nodded to
the other band members as they launched into another song and Ripper
      took lead on the microphone.

I used to travel in the shadows and I never found the nerve to try
      and walk up to you
But now I am a man, and I know there's no time to waste, there's too
      much to lose
Girl, you say anything at all, you can call and I'll be right there
      for you
First love, heartbreak, tough luck, big mistake, what else can we do

I'll say anything you want to hear; I'll see everything through
I'll do anything I have to do, just to win the love of a girl like
      you
      A girl like you

People talk and people stare, tell them I don't really care
This is the place I should be
And if they think it's really strange for a girl like you
To be in love with someone like me, I want to tell them all to go to
      hell
That would do them very well, without them you'll see
That's just the way it is and they will see I am yours and you are
      mine
      The way it should be

I'll say anything you want to hear; I'll see everything through
I'll do anything I have to do, just to win the love a girl like you
A girl like you, a girl like you, a girl like you

Now if you me in awhile, there's no holding back from trying to get
      a message to you
      I won't take anything from anyone, I won't walk, I will run
      I'll be there with you
London, Washington, anywhere you are, I know together we'll be
Inside, outside, got my pride, I won't let them take you from me

I'll say anything you want to hear; I'll see everything through
I'll do anything I have to do, just to win the love of a girl like
      you
A girl like you, a girl like you, a girl like you, a girl like you
      A girl like you
I'll say anything, I'll take anything
I'll say anything, almost anything except goodbye
(A Girl Like You, the Smithereens)

Buffy smiled and took the microphone from the stand and watched
Giles as he played the last chords and the groups moved to the next
song, this time with Buffy in lead.

I kept the right ones out and let the wrong ones in
Had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins
There were times in my life when I was going insane
Trying to walk through the pain
When I lost my grip and I hit the floor
Thought I could leave but couldn't get out the door
I was so sick and tired of living a lie
I was wishing I could die

It's amazing, in the blink of an eye, you finally see the
      light
It's amazing, when the moment arrives that you know you'll
      be all right
It's amazing, and I'm saying a prayer for the desperate
      hearts tonight

That one last shot, one last vacation
And how high can you fly with broken wings
      Life's a journey not a destination and I just can't tell
      Just what tomorrow will bring?

You got to learn to crawl before you learn to walk
But I couldn't listen to all that righteous stuff
I was out on the streets just trying to survive
      Scratching just to stay alive
      (Amazing, Aerosmith)

Manic eyes watched from the shadows in the back of the club, noting
the energy and the lyrics from the couple and the way Giles played
      with a snarl.

Willow and Tara both giggled as Buffy frowned at the recipe
instructions. She glanced up long enough to throw a cracker at
      them. "You two could help!"

"Your turn for dinner, Summers," Willow laughed.

"That's Summers-Giles, to you now," Buffy laughed. "I'm still
getting the hang of this cooking thing and it's supposed to be a
      special night."

Willow and Tara's eyebrows both rose at the same time. "What's
special about tonight? Did we miss something?"

Buffy began blushing a bright red and turned back to her
      recipe. "Uh, nothing special."

"W-wait a minute," Tara protested. "You said `special,' I heard the
      word."

      Willow nodded in agreement.

"Well, Dawn is off at Jennifer's house for the night and I know you
      two are going out…"

"So you're taking advantage to have a romantic evening," Willow
      smiled.

"Yeah, well, I've got some news for Ru and I, you know, want it to
be special," Buffy continued to blush.

Willow blinked several times, watching Buffy's face. "Buffy? You?
      You and Giles?"

Tara grabbed Willow's hand tightly as Buffy smiled softly.

"Yeah, I went to the doctor today," the Slayer said softly.

Buffy laughed as both Wiccans dashed around the counter and hugged
her tightly, squeals of delight filling the air. Questions began
flying rapidly until Buffy held up her hands with another laugh.

"Hold on! I haven't even told Ru I'm late!" she giggled. "I got it
      confirmed today."

"Giles is going to be so speechless!" Willow giggled. "I would love
      to see that!"

"Uh huh, I'm afraid he might have a heart attack or a brain seizure
or something, no audience!" Buffy grinned.

"We get descriptions tomorrow night," Willow insisted.

      "You got it!" Buffy promised.

Buffy smiled later that night, waking from a wonderful dream to the
sound of a guitar playing softly. She sat up and saw Giles playing
      softly next to the bed.

"Like our wedding day," she said softly.

Giles looked up with an impish smile. "I was thinking that myself."

"What are you thinking, husband?" Buffy asked softly.

"How much I love you and how happy I am," the Watcher smiled.

Buffy hugged her knees as she watched him. "I can't wait to be a
parent with you. Play something for me."

Giles blushed and smiled, strumming a little louder.

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing,
Watch you smile while you are sleeping,
While you are far away and dreaming,
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender,
I could stay lost in this moment forever,
Where a moment spent with you is a moment I treasure,
I don't want to close my eyes, I don't want to fall asleep,
Cause I miss you baby, And I don't want to miss a thing,
Cause even when I dream of you, the sweetest dream will never do,
I still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing
Lying close to you feeling your heart beating,
And I wondering what you are dreaming,
Wondering if it's me you are seeing,
Then I kiss your eyes and thank god we're together,
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever and forever
      forever
And I don't want to miss one smile,
I don't want to miss one kiss,
I just want to be with you right here with you,
Just like this, I just want to hold you close,
I feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment,
For all of the rest of time
"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, Aerosmith"

Buffy felt her eyes filling with tears of happiness, just like six
months earlier on their wedding morning. She extended her hand,
inviting her husband back to bed.

Buffy hugged Giles tightly at the security gate of the airport. "Why
the hell did this come up now?" she complained.

"Because it just did?" Giles suggested. "I'll be back within a week,
luv. Just some family matters I need to handle now that my father is
agreeing to talk to me again."

"I can't believe you haven't talked to him since you went back to
      school," Buffy continued to frown.

"And when was the last time you talked to your father?" Giles said
      gently.

Buffy's eyes widened and she blushed. "Yeah, well, uh, just after
      Mom's death."

"Sometimes it takes time," Giles shrugged. "I love you and I'll be
back as soon as I can."

"Why can't I go with you? I'm your wife now," her frown deepened.

"Because we might be speaking, that doesn't mean my father and I
aren't still fighting and I don't want to expose you to that in your
      first trimester."

"Okay, over protective daddy," Buffy teased, hugging him
tighter. "You'd better go if you want to catch your flight. Your dad
had better adjust to me being your wife though!"

"He will, luv, I promise," Giles smiled, kissing her gently. "I'll
      call every day."

"Better!" Buffy sniffled, finally letting him go.

Buffy walked Anya to her and Xander's apartment and headed towards
home. She wasn't worried that it was just past sunset, she was
pretty well known as the Slayer and vampire and demon activity had
      been low lately.

She wanted to get home and call Giles. Buffy didn't care about the
time difference, she wanted to talk to her husband. It had been
three days since he had left and it felt like forever.

Buffy felt her heart skip a beat when she rounded a corner and saw
Spike standing in the middle of the sidewalk in his trade-mark long
      black coat and cigarette.

"Spike, what the hell are you doing here? I told you to get out of
      town!" Buffy growled.

"Thought it was time we played again, Slayer," Spike shrugged.

"I am so beyond anything with you other than staking you, Spike,"
Buffy growled. She suddenly glanced around and pulled out her stake
as vampires began emerging out of the shadows. There were a lot of
      them.

"We'll see, Buff," Spike said softly, his eyes shining
brightly. "Remember, I can hurt you. I don't have to use them like I
did that old sod you're with."

"Spike, we helped you after that chip thing, don't even think about
whatever is crawling around in your head," Buffy warned, looking for
somewhere to place herself where she couldn't be surrounded.

Spike tossed his cigarette away as the vampires moved closer.

"Spike, if you even thought you cared for me, walk away," Buffy
warned. Without warning the vampires launched into motion but the
Slayer was a blur of action and three vampires were dust before
      Spike had even blinked.

The fight was vicious, with no holds barred on either side.

Giles fumbled for the telephone, trying to see what time it was. He
      blinked, 4:30am?

"Hello, Giles here," he mumbled, sitting up. Calls in the middle of
the night were either a lonely Buffy or trouble.

"Giles, it's… its Willow," a timid voice sounded over the telephone.

"W-Willow? What is it?" he asked, afraid of the answer.

"Buffy didn't come home tonight," Willow said softly. "Anya says she
was fine three hours ago but she never made it home. We've looked
everywhere! She planned on coming right home because she wanted to
      call you."

"Alright, calm down," Giles said firmly. "I'll arrange a flight home
      immediately. Where is Dawn?"

"She's here, about to climb the wall," Willow whimpered.

"Alright, no one goes out alone. Call… call Angel and get some help
there, it'll take me a bit to get back there," Giles said with a
      frown.

"Okay, I'll call right now. Giles, she'll be okay," Willow said
      hopefully.

"Of course she will," Giles agreed. "I'm on my way."

Giles said a quick prayer as he grabbed the clothes he had discarded
      the night before.

Giles hated traveling across the ocean, it always interfered with
his internal time clock. When he stepped off the plane, the Watcher
really had no idea what time it was, despite what his watch said.
It was near sunset, he could tell that from what he could see
outside the airplane windows as they were landing. Other than that,
he wasn't even sure what day it was. To him, it was two days since
      he had talked with Willow.

Giles frowned when he spotted Xander and Anya waiting for him,
Willow, Tara and Dawn nowhere in sight.

He quickly worked his way through the hallway to his friends.

"What news?" Giles demanded as Xander shifted on his feet and Anya
      looked confused and nervous.

"Uh, Giles, we… we found her," Xander said softly and quickly
grabbed Giles' arms. "She's alive! She's alive, G-Man, I swear."

"W-where is she?" he asked softly.

"She's at the hospital," Anya answered.

"Take me there and tell me."

Xander took his luggage and Anya steered them towards Xander's
      pickup.

"Buffy… she…" Xander hesitated. "One night and two days. Someone
dropped her on the doorstep a couple of hours ago. Willow, Tara and
      Dawnie called 911 immediately."

"How bad?" Giles asked, his head spinning as Xander dropped his
things in the back of the pickup.

"Kinda bad, Giles," Xander admitted. "She's been bitten, beaten up
      pretty bad and… they think… well, uh…"

"Tell me!" Giles demanded as Xander pulled out of the airport
parking lot with Anya between them.

"I can't," Xander said softly, tears running down his cheeks as Anya
      leaned against him.

Giles nodded and watched out the window during the short drive,
trying to retain a hold on his sanity.

Buffy woke up with a moan but tried to smile as the sound of a
      guitar reached her.

      "R-Ru?"

Instantly Giles was by her side. "I'm here, luv. I'm here."

"I don't feel so good," Buffy said softly.

"I know, luv. Just rest," Giles urged, stroking her forehead.

"I couldn't take them all," Buffy looked at the wires, tubes, IV and
      monitors surrounding her. "I… I don't remember a lot."

"You were beaten badly, Buffy," Giles said gently. "Beaten and
drained. It's only because you're a Slayer that you made it."

"He knew how far… to take it," Buffy sighed. "It… it was Spike, Ru."

"I know, luv," Giles whispered. "Just rest now, Buff."

"The… the baby?" Buffy asked, tears threatening to spill from her
      eyes.

"We'll have children, Buffy," Giles said softly. "Just not yet."

"Oh God," Buffy whispered with a wince of pain.

Giles leaned over her railing and pressed a button near her
      hand. "Just sleep and heal."

"He… he hurt me, Giles," Buffy whimpered.

"I know. He'll pay, Buffy," Giles promised.

The Englishman watched as Buffy drifted off under the influence of
the drugs. He was glad that she hadn't asked a lot of questions,
like how he knew it was Spike that had attacked her.

Giles resisted growling aloud every time he saw her right bicep with
its brand new tattoo of a railroad spike through a heart.

Spike had made his presence very clear in the way Buffy had been
attacked, what he had done to her and the final insult with the
      tattoo.

Only Buffy being unconscious and her condition unknown had kept the
enraged husband by her side. Her restless sleep only being comforted
      by his guitar playing.

Willow and Tara gently closed the door as Giles wept holding Buffy's
      hand.

"T-Tara, how… how do we help? I mean we've never… never had to deal
with something like this before," Willow asked softly. "Just the
usual nearly dying stuff, not… not what he did to her."

"We just be here, baby," Tara said gently, holding Willow. "We hold
them when they cry, understand when her emotions go up and down
without warning, deal with the rage everyone is feeling and afraid
      to show."

      Willow pulled back slightly. "You?"

Tara nodded slightly. "I w-was young and alone. M-my family blamed
      me for it."

"Idiots," Willow said firmly. "We'll be here for them. I swear I'm
going to tie Spike down in the middle of the football field to wait
      for sunrise!"

"We all will, baby," Tara agreed softly.

      From the start of life
      To my dying day
      In the dark of night
And the burning light of day
      It's a bloody fight
      But I can't walk away
I'm prime for the front line

      Unholy war, unholy war
      I'll try, I'll fight until I die
      Unholy war, unholy war
      I see, I know, you'll always be
      Unholy

      You see my burning fuse
      From a mile away
      I took your cruel abuse
      Lord took away my shame
I learned to bite the hand
That used to pull my chain
We'll fight, cause we ain't on the same side

We're in an unholy war, unholy war
I'll try, yeah I'll fight until I die
      Unholy

When I'm all alone - Unholy
With your thoughts of pain - Unholy
I can break on through - Unholy
With just an ounce of faith - Unholy

      You're shaking in your boots
      Because it's Judgement Day
      I'll get my just rewards
And you'll have your hell to pay
There's no time to throw out the lifeline

      Unholy war, unholy war
      I'll try, I'll fight until I die
      Unholy war, unholy war
      I see, I know, you'll always be
      Unholy
      (Unholy War - Alice Cooper)

Giles tacked the lyrics to Spike's old tomb door and on the inside
of the door at Willie's Bar, leaving two dusted vampires and one
demon with a broken arm in the bar to make his point. Scrawled
across each page was the name Spike.

The Watcher knew the vampire would accept the challenge eventually
or word would spread and he'd lose face. Giles would be patient.
