FLOODLINES:  COMMUNITY & RESISTANCE FROM KATRINA TO THE JENA 6
      NATIONAL TOUR
      Featuring
      Victoria Law
      Jordan Flaherty
      and Jesse Muhammad

With the livelihood and culture of Gulf Coast residents once again at risk from BP’s drilling disaster, three writers and activists will be touring the country on the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina this Fall to discuss their work.  Author and award-winning New Orleans-based journalist Jordan Flaherty; Victoria Law, author of Resistance Behind Bars; and Jesse Muhammad, of Final Call newspaper, will offer a unique, firsthand account of race, culture, and community in New Orleans and the country at large. From post-Katrina evacuee camps to organizing with the family members of the Jena Six—a group of African-American high school students who faced life in prison for their alleged part in a school fight—the Community and Resistance tour will bring to light the stories from behind the headlines, covering:

      • Struggles over the fate of public education & housing in the new New Orleans
      • Criminal justice in “post-racial” America
      • First-hand accounts of Hurricane Katrina & its aftermath
      • The intersection of arts, culture, & community organizing
      • The legacy of Jim Crow
      • Immigrants’ Rights
      • And much more

      Praise for Floodlines....
“With a new flood threatening life on the Gulf Coast—this
time made of oil, not water, but powered, as always, by
greed and neglect—these remarkable stories of
injustice and resistance must be heard.”
—Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine
“Jordan brings out the voices of the victims and survivors of New Orleans. With this
definitive work, the voices of the grassroots, the communities resisting displacement, finally have a voice.”
—Rosa Clemente, 2008 Green Party Vice-presidential candidate
