Kalamazoo, Mich. - If you thought "fast food" meant burgers dripping with
grease, pizzas with about as much flavor as the cardboard boxes they come
in, and flat, sugary sodas, think again, say health-conscious Kalamazoo
diners in an online poll conducted by PETA. Ope's restaurant has redefined
fast food by offering American favorites that are both great tasting and
vegan (healthy, animal-friendly food that is free of meat, dairy, and eggs)
like veggie burgers, Mediterranean vegetable wraps, tangy broccoli and rice
"cheddar" pasta, and hearty potato and corn chowder. With vegetarians
sprouting up all over and a rapidly growing number of Americans looking for
alternatives to meat and even dairy when dining out, Ope's, whose slogan is
"Fast Food the World Can Live With," is sure to fit the bill.

Ope's formulates its own veggie burgers, then piles them high with fresh
organic vegetables or, if you like, rice- or soy-based "cheese." After you
try one, you'll be ordering them by the bagful. And don't forget to order a
side of spicy Fit Fries-high in flavor but low in fat. The pizza is not to
be believed, made from scratch with organic whole-grain spelt flour and
tantalizingly topped with special sauce, nondairy cheeses, and lots of
veggies. Ope's Coladas-"The best fruit smoothies in Michigan"-are truly

Hungry vegetarians and nonvegetarians who don't live in the Kalamazoo area
may soon be able to enjoy Ope's special creations, too. The company is not
only poised to expand but also has trademarked several of its best-selling
specialties, which are available for purchase and redistribution by other
      commercial outlets.

"PETA Eats" features the best vegetarian restaurants and recipes recommended
by PETA's celebrity supporters, staff, and members. Other fine eateries that
have appeared on the Web site include Alicia Silverstone's favorite haunt,
Native Foods, in L.A.; Manhattan's trendy Candle Café; and last month's
pick, the Old Dog New Trick Café in New Orleans. Visitors to the site can
find recipes for vegan favorites from Paul McCartney, Prince, James
Cromwell, Pamela Anderson, Woody Harrelson, Martina Navratilova, and other
