      Ladies and Gentlemen:

I am glad to become a member of the American Communication Association. I currently teach Public Speaking at two Ohio Career Colleges - Brown Mackie College and National College - both in Cincinnati.

I am an alumnus (B.A. - 1973) of Catawba College in Salisbury  NC and (M.A. - 1975) of Marshall University in Huntington  WV. As an aside: if you saw the movie "We are . . . Marshall" about the football team dying in the plane crash, I was at Marshall just three years after the crash. The coach (Jack Lengyl)  played by Matthew McConoughay was still at MU when I was there.

I have had a long business career in insurance and publishing and kind of "fell into" college teaching - but it is the most enjoyable, most rewarding thing I've done.

I am looking forward to communicating with other members of the group about Public Speaking and different activities for the classroom.

      Sincerely,

      Michael K. McCracken

Welcome Michael. If you've been involved with other communication associations, like NCA or SSCA, I think you will find the more collegial, personal, and relaxed approach of the ACA welcoming.

With your interest in public speaking, I'm sure that you're aware that ACA has an online public-speaking text that is free for your use.  I also have a free online text at www.wca-refracted.com.  Many have suggested that the two texts compliment each other well; but, I know of only one person to use parts of both.  Let me know what you think.

But the schools at which I teach - Brown Mackie College and National College - prescribe the books that we use. At BMC it's "Public Speaking for College and Career" by Hamilton Gregory and at NC it's "The Art of Public Speaking" by Lucas.
