Hi. My name is Becky. I'm 52 years old and have mild to moderate (I
guess)AMC. I've belonged to this group for a long time, but haven't
posted very often. I have a situation I am hoping some of you can
help with: Recently my right knee began to buckle and I ended up
having an MRI, and seeing an orthopedic specialist. She sent me for
physical therapy - prescription indicated muscle strengthening not
range of motion exercises. The MRI showed moderate to severe
degenerative arthritis. Also, I was born with the right kneecap
turned to the side of my leg. I wore corrective braces as a very
young child which turned it mostly back to the front.

Anyway. The PT (physical therapist) keeps wiggling my kneecaps to
loosen them. She pulled each of them way out of how they line up and
TAPED them there. (hurt like the dickens - glad I'm allergic to the
tape - she had to take it off). Each week it seemed she was trying
more and more to make my knees bend "properly". I asked her at my
last visit why she was doing these things - because (I pointed to the
guy next to me)my knees don't bend like his do - I don't walk like he
does. She told me that I did. Well both my sister and my husband
had fits - saying NO I don't walk like others.

Also I want to say, since going to PT my knee has begun to have pre-
buckle cramps in it again and hurts more now than it has in a long
while. Actually kept me awake almost all of one night!

Never having had PT before like this, I am asking those who have - am
I wrong - because I'm not going back to her - I think she is not
paying attention to the prescription orders and has done more harm
than good with trying to get my kneecaps lines up "properly"!

      Please comment.

      thank you
      Becky

I would return to your doctor and inform them of what is going on, then request to have another therapist handle your case. You need to remember, YOU know more

remember, YOU know more about what you can and can't do. Most have
no clue to what you are all about. They may have useful information
or treatments, but not necessarily know how it relates to your
specific condition. Have you ever tried water therapy? That, plus
        some heat might help. Michelle
