      the problem is not the char/line delay.
      When you transfer "big" amount of data e.g. via PIP,
      every time the transfer buffer is full, PIP transfers
      the buffer to the disk. Meanwhile your terminal transfers
      data anywhere, because the SIO sends no stop to transmitter.
      Some SIO-chips have pins with "receiver buffer full" signal function.
      Other SIOs handshaking is only working under program control.
