Thank You For The Welcome:
I live in Chatsworth, CA, part of the greater Los Angeles area. My interest
in DB dates back to my college years--early 50s. My then first love of my
life and I checked out a copy of "Vagabond's House" from the Santa Ana City
College library. We were hooked---our dreams coming alive as we read; then
bought a copy that was well-worn by the time we launched our careers in
journalism. But at that time we were considered pseudo-literature buffs as
our literature professor put DB down, saying his work was superficial.....we
should be reading Yeats or even Frost. I understand DB faced the same
criticism from the so-called intellectuals. How wrong they were---DB's poetry
comes alive with feelings that inspire the reader to identify with his
people, places and things.
Unfortunately, our house was lost in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake---and
along with it my DB books. So I am starting over. Of course, my first
purchase was "Vagabond's House." My main interest now is not only restoring
my DB collection--but do research for an article or book that will help
promote DB to his proper place as a leading poet of the 20th Century.
Please pass on any information that can assist me. I would love to interview
anyone who knew DB.
