Hello again fellow Don-o-philes,
I was thinking a little tonight about what was mentioned as far as
acquiring the DB drawing on ebay right now.
I would be more than happy to contribute to an effort to obtain this piece
but I think we should move more towards the idea we had earlier of getting a
foundation going. That way possession of these pieces the foundation
purchases could be a matter of agreed-upon policy.
I would also be willing to contribute items that I have to form a
centralized collection with others here in our group. This begs the question
of where the items will be housed. Is there a library or museum that would
hold and display a Blanding collection? Would the Carmel library be
interested in a permanent display of Blanding memorabilia? Would a museum in
DBs home town in OK be interested? Bishop Museum?
I think that, as a group we can be a formidable force in collecting the
Blanding material out there and getting the scattered pieces of Don's art and
writings into a more coherent grouping. But also consider that as a
non-profit foundation we stand a better chance of receiving donated items for
Just a few thoughts thrown to the wind... what do YOU think?
