      Hello, New Friends.
Yesterday in Kingfisher, OK (home of DB) I presented a reading DB's poetry.
I also passed around some plates and pictures. This group, The Bookcase
Review Club, consists of about 60 women. Until yesterday, most were unaware
of the extent of Blanding's talents, and most had never heard his poetry
before. I was wondering: #1 - Are there any residents of Kingfisher who
belong to this group? #2 - Do any of you new friends have any ideas about
how we in Kingfisher might work to promote an appreciation of Don Blanding
      here in his home town?
Thank you for allowing me to participate in this group.

        Hi Virginia, Keith Emmons here.

It may be a good idea for your group to coordinate something with Jim at the Great Plains
Museum. Perhaps your city can host an exhibit celebrating the 110-year-anniversary of
Don's birth in Kingfisher, which occurs next month. Probably too soon for the exact day,
but it still might be a good idea.

Welcome to the group. I'm sure everyone will give you more info than you ever thought possible. I would advise you to contact the Great Plains Museum, I believe Jim Wheatley is your contact there. They uncovered about 12 boxes of DB's memoriabilia several years ago that were given to the museum after DB's death in 1957. They curated a show/exhibit in July 2000. They still have all of DB's material displayed. I'm sure they would be happy to work with you locally. I would also advise you to view Keith Emmon's web site at www.don-blanding.com. Both Cadia and Keith have wonderful websites to educate all on the comprehensive works of DB. In Sept of 2000 there was another show/exhibit in Carmel Ca., that I help curate with Don and Michelle Stewart. Their was a third show/exhibit in Florida from Nov 2001 through Jan 2002. There have been no shows/exhibits since then. There is also an ebay auction site which sells memoriabilia related to Blanding. Not all of it is from Don Blanding however. But, it would be helpful to view it to see all of what is for sale these days. Some of it is quite expensive now.
I had some help from a lady in Oklahoma while setting up my show. I'll go back into my archives and retrieve it. She was doing some local research for me and was very helpful. Just can't remember her name right off the top. I'm surprised that local people in Lawton/Enid don't know that much about you local boy. I wrote a poem honoring DB for my Carmel show and it is as follows:

          Ode to Don Blanding

Where he was suppose to be
          He just left
          Where he was going
          Was a mystery
          And
          Where you thought he was,
          He wasn't
          And when he showed up
          He was welcome

Keith: I am mailing the Ada Hull material to you this week. I didn't copy each page as some of it was material we already had or knew of. I think you'll like what I did copy for you though. Her grandson in Monterey isn't being very emailish with me. He did say that if I was in town he would meet with me again. I wanted to go to his house to see everything first hand again and I think he'll let me do that. I'll bring my digital camera with me when I do it. Also thanks for the contact with Pete on the Let's Live magazine. Very interesting stuff there. What I found most interesting was that Let's Live magazine was publishing portions of DB's unpublished manuscript that I own, No Strings on Tomorrow. I hadn't seen it published anywhere to date until now. This all happened after DB's death. I think the last LL magazine I had was in July 1962. We know that EHG tried to have it published again in 1964 again without success. I'm curious as to LL magazines up through 1964-5 and if they continued to publish the manuscript. Anyway, thanks for the contact and help....tj
