On This Date In NorCal Mining History (March 25)
- From the pages of the Redding Record-Searchlight on this date a century ago:
"Shasta County led in chrome production.
The state mining bureau reported that in 1912, 1,220 tons of chrome were produced in Shasta and Siskiyou counties, having a spot value of $10,310.
Chrome, or more correctly chromic iron ore, was used principally as the refractory ingredient in the reverberatory and other furnace linings."
