NALA Certification vs. Paralegal School Certification
- Hi Everyone,
Did a little research myself but still got a couple questions,
hoping you guys/gals and help me out here. I am a Legal Analyst, 7
years of experience in Legal field, primary duties are SEC Filings
(10K, 10Q, 8K, Section 16 filings), Corporate housekeeping,
administer company's stock plan...etc...
I don't have a paralegal certificate but are looking into getting
one so I can get better salary with the credential.
Here are my questions:
1) How does employers value Paralegal Certification through NALA??
(I didn't finish college, but I have 7 years of experience so
per NALA provisions I can sit through the exam with attorney's
certification of my experience.)
2) Do ppl who went through a Paralegal Certification Program in a
school setting obtain additional certification through NALA?? I
guess the question is how well is NALA recognized in the legal field.
3) What are the differences between NALA Certification vs.
Paralegal School Certification??
I really want to become a certified paralegal but don't have the
time and money to go through a whole program for it. BTW, I am in
the state of Cali.
Thank in adavance for anyone's comments and input.
- One way to proceed would be to start phoning law firms (or reputable
agencies that staff law firms) in the area in which you are looking to
work, and asking their personnel people or whoever does the hiring, what
THEY look for in an entry-level paralegal. I'm going to take the
tests--I think there are two paralegal certification exams.
