      TOPIC: Paleoecology of the Tombigbee Sand Member Caprock exposed at Catoma Falls, Montgomery Co., AL.

      SPEAKER: Joshua R. Lively, BS

      APS Member Josh Lively just finished his BS Honor’s Thesis in Geology at Auburn University. He will present the topic of his Thesis at our next meeting: Catoma Creek is a favorite site for amateur and professional paleontologists from across the state. It is famous for abundant echinoids (sea biscuits) that are particularly common within the a rock unit known as the Tombigbee Sand Member caprock. A little known fossil that is also found in the caprock is the pen shell Pinna. This talk will explore how this caprock was generated, highlighting the paleoecology and environment of deposition of the area.

      PRESENTATION TIME: 07:00pm.


      LOCATION: Birmingham Zoo -- Auditorium

      Prior to the meeting everyone is invited to the optional supper at Taziki's Greek Fare in Mountain Brook near the Zoo exit, 2737 Highway 280 S, Mountain Brook, AL. (*NOT* the location farther out Highway 280). We gather there about 5:30/5:45pm.
