      Fall 2000 preservation workshops in your area:

      **********PRESERVING COLLECTIONS IN A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT: ************
      ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL AND MONITORING
      Thursday, October 26, 2000 at University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama
      from 9am - 4 pm.

      The most cost-effective strategy to preserve our documentary resources is
      by controlling temperature, relative humidity, and pollutants. This
      workshop will help library staff identify the source of problems, monitor
      the environment, and develop strategies for affecting change in their
      institution. It will include an extensive packet of resource materials,
      plus exhibits of state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. Instructor is Dr.
      Michael Trinkley, Director of Chicora Foundation.

      Cost is $95 Full Members ($85 early bird, $120 late registration), $105
      Associate Users ($95 early bird, $130 late registration), and $135
      Affiliate (non-members), ($125 early bird, $160 late registration).
      ANY institution within Alabama qualifies for the member rate.

      SIMPLE, SAFE TECHNIQUES TO RECOVER FROM A MOLD OUTBREAK
      Friday, October 27, 2000 at the University of South Alabama, Mobile,
      Alabama from 9am - 12 noon.

      Mold is a constant threat to collections, particularly in climates with
      high heat humidity. This half-day workshop provides a general introduction
      to identifying mold, the types of damage it causes to collection materials,
      and techniques for safe mold removal and cleaning. Dr. Michael Trinkley,
      Director of the Chicora Foundation is the instructor for this session.

      Cost is $70 Full Members ($60 early bird, $95 late registration), $80
      Associate Users ($70 early bird, $105 late registration), and $100
      Affiliate (non-members), ($90 early bird, $125 late registration).
      ANY institution within Alabama qualifies for the member rate.
