      To Alabama History List Members:

      Leah Atkins, noted Alabama historian, will deliver the Hardie P. Jones
      lecture at Huntsville's EarlyWorks Children's Museum at 7:00 p.m. on
      Tuesday, April 11.

      This lecture is one of a series on "Belles Books, History and Memoir:
      Southern Women's Civil War Stories" sponsored by the Auburn University
      Center for Arts and Humanities and funded by the Alabama Humanities
      Foundation. Huntsville sponsors include EarlyWorks and the Alabama
      Preservation Series.

      Atkins is a co-editor of "Belle of the Fifties: Memoirs of Mrs. Clay of
      Alabama" published by the University of Alabama Press in 1999 and which is
      a reprint--with an informative introduction and extensive annotation--of
      Virginia Clay-Clopton's memoir originally published in 1905.

      The lecture will be in the Grand Hall of EarlyWorks Children's Museum, 404
      Madison Street, Huntsville.
