      The Auburn History Department recently received approval to begin a search
      for a new faculty position with a specialization in 20th Century southern
      history. The following job ad has been sent to H-NET, the Chronicle of
      Higher Education, and Perspectives:

      Twentieth-Century South. Entry-level tenure-track position to begin
      August 16, 2000. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and
      graduate courses in field of specialization. Excellent teaching and
      scholarly potential important. Applicants must have all requirements for
      the Ph.D. completed by August 16, 2000. Send application and at least
      three letters of recommendation to Jeff Jakeman, Chair, Search Committee,
      History Dept., Auburn University, Auburn, AL 35849-5207. Initial
      submission of teaching evaluations and dissertation chapter or other
      sample of scholarship encouraged. Screening of applications begins
      December 6, 1999 and will continue until a qualified applicant is selected
      and recommended for appointment. Auburn University is an AA/EOE and
      encourages applications from women and minorities.
