      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

      Up in Flames!

Civil War Walking Tour Addresses the Historic Day Montgomery Set Fire to Itself

      Montgomery, Al, April 11, 2013:

One hundred and forty-eight years ago this month, the ashes of Montgomery's cotton warehouses were still smoldering from the fires of April 11,1865, set by officials to destroy thousands of stored cotton bales as the Yankees approached.

Landmarks Foundation invites the public to join historians Bob Bradley and Mary Ann Neeley for their annual Civil War Walking Tour, which begins at 2pm, April 21st at the mouth of the Tunnel on historic Commerce Street. After exploring the waterfront, the group will proceed to the Capitol, discussing events surrounding the organization of the Confederacy, the inauguration of Jefferson Davis, the lead-up to war, Montgomery’s role though the conflict and the later horrific fires.

The tour is  $5.00 to general public; Landmarks' members and children under twelve are free. For further information and registration please call 334- 240-4500 or 334-888-1850. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring water for the two-hour tour.  Registration is suggested.
