The Second Annual Festival of Alabama Fiber Arts Comes to Old Alabama Town
Montgomery, Al, March 14, 2013:
The second annual Festival of Alabama Fiber Arts will once again be celebrating our state’s rich textile tradition at Old Alabama Town on March 22 & 23. This two-day event will feature workshops, demonstrations, a fiber market, live animals, and a juried Fiber Arts exhibition. Fiber enthusiasts will have a chance to work with noted fiber artists in a hands-on atmosphere, and the Fiber Market will feature vendors of a plethora of fiber related items from the animal fiber itself to finished fiber artwork. Warped, Twisted and Tangled—Revisited, a juried competition that has been on display during the month of March, gives Alabama fiber artists a chance to exhibit their best work. The Festival is free and open to the public.
The Festival will feature a variety of workshops and demonstrations this year, such as Fabric Pottery, Raising Silk Worms, Beaded Embroidery, Dying Fibers, Tri-Loom Weaving, and Introduction to Spinning. Some of these classes require a small fee for materials, and you can secure your spot at alabamafiberarts.com. The Festival is bringing in some amazing vendors selling everything from handspun yarn to handmade spindles, and even local honey. Enjoy the live animals exhibit and see some alpacas, goats, and angora rabbits up close! There is even a Fabric Marbling Activity that children can enjoy! The Festival of Alabama Fiber Arts is sure to be a fun learning experience for all fiber enthusiasts, experienced and novice alike.
The Festival of Alabama Fiber Arts is Friday March 22nd 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday March 23rd 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a special Meet & Greet event on Friday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. where you can meet the artists and vendors, and enjoy food and door prizes. The Meet & Greet is free but space is limited, so pick up your tickets at the Bake Sale table at the Festival on Friday. To enter the Festival, go to Lucas Tavern at 310 N. Hull St. Food will be available to purchase on site by That’s My Dog Hotdogs and the Festival Bake Sale. For more info visit alabamafiberarts.com.
