      Location:  Autauga County Probate Office, 176 W. 5th St. (one block north of courthouse in downtown Prattville ). You should know:  Probate Judge Al Booth is opening the record room for members and visitors to research records such as wills, deeds, and marriages.  Members of AGS will be available to help those who are not familiar with record research.  It will be helpful to go online at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~alautaug/ to determine the location of older records before coming to the probate office.

      1891 January 7- Zora Neale Hurston, who will become a brilliant folklorist,

                novelist, and short story writer, is born in Notasulga,

                Alabama . For reasons known only to her, she will claim 1901 as

                her birth year and the all-Black town of Eatonville , Florida as

                her birthplace. She will be one of the more influential writers

                of the Harlem Renaissance, known for her novel "Their Eyes Were

                Watching God" and her folklore collections, including "Of Mules

                and Men." She will join the ancestors on January 28, 1960.

      Cemeteries join historic list
      The Alabama Historical Commission added three Mobile County graveyards to the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register.  St. Rose of Lima Cemetery , Lartigue Cemetery and the Pine Crest Cemetery joined 16 other Mobile County graveyards on the register.  There are 252 cemeteries on the register statewide. The designation is honorary and imposes no restrictions on property owners.“
