Gadsden Public Library event: Watt Key's Alabama Moon
**Read It Forward: Alabama Moon
Going on Now!
A limited number of copies of the Gadsden Public Library's Read It Forward selection, ALABAMA MOON by Watt Key are available at the library. It's not too late to participate in this project. Author and Alabama native, Watt Key, will be at the GPL February 18, 2009 to discuss his novel.
How to participate in Read It Forward: Find a copy of the book. Next, read it! After you read it, log on to www.gadsdenlibrary.org, click on “Read It Forward,” enter your book’s tracking number, where you found the book, where you left it and leave a comment. Finally, pass the book forward for someone else to read. Check out the library’s website often to track your book as it travels from reader to reader and see what others have to say.
Students may also enter a short story contest which will require them to write about Moon and friends twenty years later. Winners will attend a special luncheon with Mr. Key and library staff. Official contest rules are posted on http://www.gadsdenlibrary.org/teenzone
About Alabama Moon…it is an adventure set in the forests of Alabama where 10 year old Moon lives with his father, a Vietnam veteran who distrusts people and the government. Moon’s father has schooled him in academics as well as survival, but when Pap dies and the land is sold, Moon is discovered and sent to live in a group home. Moon wonders how he is going to get to Alaska as he promised his father and begins to plan his escape. As Moon makes the first friends of his life he begins to question all of the lessons his father taught him as well as his father’s lifestyle.
Read It Forward is sponsored by the Gadsden-Etowah Public Library and has been funded in part by the Etowah County Library Commission. For more information contact Tami Brooks tami@... or 256-549-4699 ext. 101.
