Celebrate "Alabama Day" on Sunday (Dec. 14) by visiting the Encyclopedia of Alabama. EOA offers a selection of entries related to life in Alabama during the territorial and early statehood period. Many of these articles are presented in the "Features" section of the site, which is accessible through the EOA homepage. www.EncyclopediaofAlabama.org.

EOA has articles on St. Stephens, Cahaba , Battle of Horseshoe Bend, William Wyatt Bibb, and others involved in creating the state. EOA also provides easy access to documents related to the state’s early history. The article "Territorial Period and Early Statehood" includes links to transcriptions of the Alabama Enabling Act and the 1819 Constitution. A scanned digital edition of  "The Flush Times of Alabama and Mississippi ", a collection of humorous stories that describes life on the Southern frontier, can be accessed through the article on Joseph Glover.

The Encyclopedia of Alabama is a comprehensive online reference work on the state’s history, culture, geography, and natural environment. It is available for free from any computer with Internet access. EOA is similar to a traditional print encyclopedia in its emphasis on authoritative content based on sound scholarship. But, the online format makes it a modern reference too offering video, audio, graphics, and hyperlinks.
