      EUGENE WALTER EXHIBIT

         An exhibit on Eugene Walter (1921-1998), a screenwriter and poet born in Mobile and famous for living a bohemian lifestyle, is on display in the three upright glass cases located on the north side (facing Samford Hall) of the Special Collections and Archives Department.   The exhibit features photographs, books published by Walter, correspondence, and even a typewriter. The department is located on the GROUND FLOOR of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library at Auburn University .

      1915 December 4- The Ku Klux Klan receives its charter from Fulton County , Georgia Superior Court. The modern Klan will spread to Alabama and other Southern states and reach the height of its influence in the twenties.  By 1924, the organization will be strong in Oklahoma , Indiana , California , Oregon , Indiana , and Ohio , and have an estimated four million members.
