      **Autauga Genealogical Society
      Date:  Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
      Location:  Prattaugan Museum , "Little House", on Main Street in downtown
      Prattville .  Parking and entrance behind the museum, across from the side of
      City Hall. Mrs. Frances Robb will present the program, "Science into History: The
      Photographs of Eugene Allen Smith, State Geologist".  These are not just
      pictures of rocks but are also photographs of rural Alabama , 1885-1910. They
      depict an Alabama that has all but vanished: mineral springs and their
      hotels, ferries and river landings, farms and early industrial sites. The
      Geological Survey of Alabama photographs include exceptionally rare images
      of rural Alabama .  A reception will be held afterward by the Autauga County
      Heritage Association. Visitors are always welcome to attend.  Visit the Autauga Genealogical

      **Book signing: Joe Formichella will be at El Rey Burrito Lounge on March 16 to read from and sign copies of his new book, "Murder Creek: The 'Unfortunate Incident' of Annie Jean Barnes." The nonfiction book was just released by River City Publishing, which is sponsoring the event from 4 to 7 p.m. with musical entertainer Grayson Capps. Formichella, who lives in Fairhope, is a Hackney Literary award winner and Pushcart Prize nominee. He is also a finalist for the ForeWord Book of the Year Award. His work includes the novel "The Wreck of the Twilight Limited." The Capitol Book and News folks will be there with copies of "Murder Creek," which are $25.95 per copy. El Rey is at 1031 E. Fairview Ave. Call River City Publishing at 265-6753.
