      Dear Friends  and Supporters, 
      This is good news about one of our most talented Alabama authors, Irene
      Irene's new book of poems, WHAT CAME BEFORE (Negative Capability Press,
      2007), is off the press and ready to read!
      Irene and the book's illustrator, Jeff Faulk, will be present at  
      Jonathan Benton Booksellers (Mountain Brook , Alabama )  
      Thursday, November 8, 5:30 - 6:30 pm . 
      There will be snacks and books and poetry-lovers and other interesting
      folk, too.    
       And if you have a favorite poem from the book, Irene would love for you
      to come read it aloud  to her !

      If you are not already familiar with Irene's work, here are some
      Irene is first vice president of the Alabama Writers' Conclave, poetry
      editor of the Birmingham Arts Journal, and last year's Alabama Poet of
      the Year. She produces the annual MY FAVORITE POEM event at the Alabama
      School of Fine Arts. Her first novel, THE WITCHES OF GEES BEND, is being
      published by G.P. Putnam, and her poetry appears in the Big Table Poets'
      latest book, POEMS FROM THE BIG TABLE (Churn Dash Press, 2007). Her
      previous book of poetry was NOW PLAYING (New Dawn Unlimited,
      2001). Irene and artist Liz Reed will be featured in a major exhibition
      in Gadsden, beginning in November. The opening reception, Poetry and
      Paint, will be Sunday, November 18, 2:30 p.m. in Gadsden at the Mary G.
