TO ALL RESEARCHERS OF SOUTHEAST ALABAMA SURNAMES...

My friend and fellow researcher, Mrs. Sarah Fowler, has recently put
together a 220 page book on Dale County, Alabama. It is called "A
Window in Time, Dale County, Alabama 1860" because it is a look at
that year and who was living and working in Dale. It is based on a
copy of the 1860 Head of Household Census of "free citizens" as taken
by William Bracewell. She has listed the census as she copied it on
the left side of each page with notes-- accumulated over the years--
on the right. Sarah found she had additional genealogical notes for
most households who resided there at that time.

The book contains a few pages of background history of Dale and maps
of the time period but does not claim to be an "authority" on the
subjects, rather a continuing study of help for the researcher who
finds him or herself against that "brick wall" of lost records.

Dale's "Window" sells for $35.00 each. Only 100 books were printed,
so please let Sarah know if you are interested. You may respond by e-
      mailing:

If books need to be mailed, a mailing fee will have to be added but
it may be that a drop-off can be arranged at the local libraries.

Just to make you aware on the latest and what is available for this
      area of Alabama.

The Southeast Alabama Genealogical Society has also published a long-
awaited Index to a well-known, much-used book, History of Henry
County, Alabama by Mrs. Marvin Scott. This old reference has never
had an index; but, now it has! This is also available by contacting
      rdvalky@... .
