      Subject: Archives Wing Opening

Do you enjoy hearing Alabama singers?
Do you have a favorite memento you would like appraised?
Interested in seeing the new west wing of the State Archives?

If any or all of these have piqued your interest, we invite you and your
family to join us for the Department of Archives and History's West Wing
Fling! On Saturday, October 8, 2005, the Archives has planned a
fun-filled day of family-oriented Alabama history activities. The
Governor and Mrs. Riley will officially open the new wing during a
ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 AM. The ribbon will be cut by an Alabama
4th grader who won an essay writing contest to claim the honor.
Re-enactors will be on the Archives lawn demonstrating daily activities
from years gone by. The Birmingham Sunlights, the Sullivan Family, and
Lil' Jimmie Reed will perform. The Gees Bend Quilters and Wayne Flynt
are two of the speakers that will talk about their latest work. Three
Alabama Storytellers will spin yarns for children of all ages and
children won't want to miss the fun activities planned especially for
them. Please join us in Montgomery on October 8!

      Directions to the Archives
(http://www.archives.state.al.us/location.html) and the full West Wing
      Fling schedule (http://www.archives.state.al.us/whatsnew/wingfling.html)
