      The Alabama Blues Project has declared 2005 the Year of Alabama Blues
      Women and has planned a series of events in celebration of Alabama's
      great blues women.

      The first of these events is to launch the touring exhibition Red Hot
      and Blue: A Spotlight on Five Alabama Blues Women - featuring "Coot"
      Grant, Lucille Bogan, Big Mama Thornton, Vera Hall, and Odetta. The
      exhibition is opening on Tuesday, February 22 starting 7:30pm at the
      Tuscaloosa Public Library and includes photographs, recordings, vintage
      clothing, and historical artifacts. The opening will feature a
      presentation by award winning scholar/performer Lea Gilmore titled
      Beltin' Boppin' and Blue - Women and the Blues.
      This exhibition is sponsored by the Alabama Blues Project, the
      University of Alabama's Department of Women Studies, Tuscaloosa Public
      Library and a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
