      To the list,

Can anyone help Susan with this inquiry? You may contact her off-list or if
you post to this group, I can forward the thread to Susan.

      Subject: culinary history/Alabama

      Dear Joey Brackner,

Working with a consortium of people and organizations in five-state
area, I am conducting a survey designed to tell "who is doing what and where
in terms of culinary history. We are starting with a survey of archives
and libraries in search of their favorite, least -used, or otherwise helpful
collections pertaining to culinary history. Thus far, listings have been
entered for cherished cookbooks, manuscripts, and records relating to the
history of dining and food; scholars working on foodways; cooking schools
that teach the history of cuisine -- and all these will be (or, in a few
cases have been) added to an online listing.

I am having some trouble getting any information from Alabama. I can
send our survey, or people can merely describe one collection and allow us
to call them. We want to make the whole process easy --

Martin Orliff mentioned your name....and thought you might be especially
knowledgeable about oral history projects on food, which we are also
surveying, and other matters. For example, someone mentioned to me an
exhibit of Alabama cookbooks, but no one can remember where this was held,
      or when. Do you.....?

Also, would you be willing to talk with someone about the survey or
      refer us to others?

For more information about our first efforts, see

      Thank you so much,

      Susan Tucker
