**Tillman Crane STRUCTURE -- Careful, artful attention is what makes Decatur native's photos captivating
Tillman Crane brought his expertise in large-format photography home to Decatur recently, along with his childhood memories of the Carnegie library.
The professional photographer, who had a book of his architectural photos published in June, documented the former library building on Church Street just as he does projects all over the country.
I do some landscape work and some portrait photography, but the work I'm known for and love to do is architectural photography, both interior and exterior," said Crane, 46, who grew up in Decatur but has lived in Utah and Maine for the past 15 years.
He said he typically would leave his cameras in his car and spend time in a location before he photographs it; he just walks around to see what it feels like. "I don't just look for a pre-ordained spot where I might shoot a picture. I look for the nooks, the crannies, the little spaces," he said, and he thinks about what the architect had in mind.
