      Greetings,

      Here's a short update on the terrific material we've been adding over at the
      USADEEPSOUTH.COM site. New in the past couple of days are articles on [gasp]
      hotrodding (a Kent Fletcher special) and the Chickamauga Civil War
      battlefield (from Helga Ross's pen). Check out the site for MORE MORE MORE.
      We're now in the top 55 Webseed sites for traffic and we're getting greedy.
      Come see!
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      SPECIAL LINK OF THE WEEK:
      http://www.usadeepsouth.com/article1025.html
      Bonnie Horton writes about a sneaky Southern pastime. Or could this
      dishonesty be universal?
      I think so.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

      THIS WEEK'S SOUTHERN TRIVIA
      There are a number of world capitals in Dixie that you should know about.
      Here are a few.

      1) Root Beer Capital of the World - Gulfport, Mississippi

      2) Fruitcake Capital of the World - Clayton, Georgia

      3) Bourbon Capital of the World - Lynchburg, Tennessee

      4) Catfish Capital of the World - Greensboro, Alabama, and Belzoni,
      Mississippi (little competition here for Kingfish of the Mountain)

      Got any more? Send em to bethjacks@....

      Y'all come.

        Dear USADEEPSOUTH subscribers,

        Ye Editor has been scooting around the by-ways of southern Mississippi and
        Alabama, only arriving home this afternoon. Hence, the newsletter is late.
        Sorry.

        If you've not had a chance to visit the site in the last week, here's what's
        waiting there for you:

        ARISTOTLE'S SUPERMAN by Carl Schultz
         "Aristotle's Superman" was transcribed from the journal of Edward Graf
        Schultz; written circa 1936.

        DEEP SOUTH GARDEN CLUB GAB by Beth Jacks
        Curious about what goes on at those Deep South Garden Club meetings? Here's
        a bit of humorous fiction from the wacky mind of Ye Editor.

        THE FINE ART OF GRABBLING AND FROG GIGGING by Tom Givens
        Tom Givens gives a blow by blow description of grabbling and frog gigging.
        Every southern Good Ol' Boy can do this grabbling and frog gigging, but not
        every southern Good Ol' Boy can tell it like Tom. Listen up, now.

        SOUTHERN SUMMER DAZE by Lisa Lott Gibson
        Remember shelling peas till your fingers were numb? Here's another wonderful
        memoir of childhood days in the South. Lisa Lott Gibson shares memories of
        visits to her grandparents' farm in Mississippi.

        CALL FOR WRITERS: Legends of the South by Marshall Dean
        Want to help write a book? Marshall Dean of Wetumpka, Alabama, has an
        interesting southern travel book project underway, and he wants your input.

        DOUGHNUT DOLLY IN VIET NAM by Beth Jacks
        In spite of our family's pleas, my sister Kathy flew off to join the war in
        Viet Nam. The letters and tapes she sent home to us in Mississippi during
        her year as a Red Cross Doughnut Dolly are a treasure beyond belief.

        CHICAGO 1, BASEBALL 0 by Harvey L. Gardner
        "It's not every year a boy takes a trip with his parents and big brother--a
        trip that floods his mind with great memories until the day he gets too old
        to remember anything," writes Harvey Gardner, as he recalls the only family
        vacation he had as a youngster growing up in Tennessee.

        BUBBA'S DREAM by Robert L. Hall
        Fiction from Memphis native, Robert L. Hall -- Was Bubba's experience
        fantasy? A dream? Perhaps instead, Bubba is simply faced with reality. What
        do you think?

        Send me your stories, folks!
        Submission guidelines are posted at the site.

        And thanks so much for visiting. Till next Tuesday . . . or thereabouts.
