      The Southern Association for Women Historians is pleased to announce a
      new round of competition for the Julia Cherry Spruill Publication
      Prize. The $750 prize is awarded annually for the best published book
      in southern women's history.

      The prizewinner will be announced at the annual meeting of the Southern
      Association for Women Historians in November 1999. Authors, publishers,
      and third parties may submit entries. To be eligible, entries must be
      written in English, but the competition is not restricted to works
      published in the United States. Anthologies, edited works, and all
      other types of historical publications are eligible.

      The Southern Association for Women Historians is pleased to announce a
      new round of competition for the Willie Lee Rose Publication Prize in
      southern history. The $750 prize is awarded annually for the best book
      in southern history authored by a women (or women).

      The prizewinner will be announced at the annual meeting of the Southern
      Association for Women Historians in November 1999. Authors, publishers,
      and third parties may submit entries. To be eligible, entries must be
      written in English, but the competition is not restricted to works
      published in the United States. Anthologies, edited works, and all
      other types of historical publications are eligible.

      Entry Requirements:

      The period of eligibility for the eighth Julia Cherry Spruill and
      Willie Lee Rose Publication Prizes is for works published between
      January 1, 1998 and December 31, 1998.

      Four (4) copies of each entry must be sent to the following address no
      later than April 1, 1999. A letter listing each entry should be sent
      under separate cover so we can verify receipt of all volumes.

      IMPORTANT:
      All entries must be clearly marked either "Spruill Prize Entry" or
      "Rose Prize Entry"
