      The Sumter County (Alabama) Historical and Preservation Society
      will hold its annual Sumter Heritage Days on Friday-Sunday, March 5-7,
      1999 on the grounds of Aduston Hall in historic Gainesville, Alabama.
      The event will feature arts, crafts, antique appraisals and shows,
      historic homes and site tours, living history camps, infantry, cavalry
      and artillery demonstrations and a War Between the States battle
      re-enactments. Friday will be education day, with free demonstrations
      for area school children. Saturday will feature homes tours, living
      history camps, antique appraisals and shows, programs, BBQ and other
      food, battle re-enactment at 3 pm, and a Military Ball that evening,
      featuring the reknown Fifth Alabama Regimental Band. Sunday's line-up
      includes antebellum period church services in one of Gainesville's
      historic churches, dinner on the grounds and a 2 pm battle re-enactment
      will be the weekend finale.

      Gainesville, founded in 1832 is on the banks of the Tombigbee River and
      is the site where Confederate Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest parolled
      his troops upon surrender to Union forces in April of 1865. For more

        Just a reminder...Tenth Annual Sumter Heritage Days and Civil War
        Re-enactment March 5-7, 1999, Gainesville, Sumter County, Alabama.
        Friday will feature an education day free to area schools, and a Friday
        night old time gospel singing. Saturday's line-up includes antique
        auction and appraisals, living history camps and demonstrations, arts
        and crafts (many local artisans), Southern food, music, featuring the
        Fifth Alabama Regimental Band, and Battle re-enactment at 3-pm. Sunday
        will host a community church service, dinner on the grounds and a
        skirmish at Cooke Orchard at 1:30 pm. For more information contact Joey
