institutional cosponsors and partnerships with California State
University at Fresno, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

the US Geological Survey (USGS), the American Public Health Association
(APHA), the National Association of County and City Health Officials
(NACCHO), the National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH),
the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), and
the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA), is
sponsoring a "GIS in Public Health" conference for August 18-20, 1998,
in San Diego, California. San Diego State University is the local host
for this exciting event. This conference will highlight innovative
applications of GIS (geographic information systems) and spatial
analysis techniques for the protection of public health and the
      environment.

On behalf of all sponsors and the conference host, I invite your
participation in this timely conference for discussions with an
international group of professionals in the field of GIS and public
health. Registration for the August conference is now open to all
      interested participants.

Complete conference details can be obtained on ATSDR's Home Page,
      located at:
      http://atsdr1.atsdr.cdc.gov:8080/GIS/conference/ A registration form to
FAX or mail is available online to facilitate registration. If you do
not have access to the Internet, please respond directly to this E-mail
and I will be more than happy to send you a conference brochure.

Two inexpensive "GIS in Health" workshops are available on the day
before the start of the conference (Monday, August 17th). Additionally,
a field trip to investigate border health issues will be conducted on
Friday, August 21st. Please visit the Internet pages for more
      information.

An exposition demonstrating state-of-the art equipment, software, and
books to support spatial analysis will also be occurring at the
convention center. Regardless of your level of expertise, I encourage
      your participation in this conference.

Please pass this information on to your colleagues and to other
interested parties. I apologize for cross-postings.
