GEOSTATS: 1st International Conference on Computer Simulation in Risk Analysis and Hazard
- CALL FOR PAPERS
1st International Conference
Computer Simulation in Risk Analysis and Hazard
RISK ANALYSIS 98
6-8 October 1998
UIMP, Palau de Pineda, Valencia, Spain
The analysis and management of risk and the mitigation of hazards have
recently become very important due to
the greater complexity of systems of all kinds and the increased
potential for disasters on a world wide scale.
People have become much more concerned about risks to health and the
environment and are requiring answers,
not only for the present generation, but for generations to come. There
are many questions regarding the safe and
efficient use of resources in addition to environmental concerns
generally, which fall within the province of risk
assessment and management.
The development of computational methods and the ability to model
systems more precisely now enable hazards to
be quantified, their effects to be simulated and risk analysis to be
pursued with greater accuracy, providing for more
effective risk management. These developments are not only important for
all areas of human endeavour, but have
particular relevance to environmental issues where the risks involved
are increasingly seen as substantial. Effective risk
management and the mitigation of possible hazards have become a high
priority of government concern.
This Conference is concerned with all aspects of risk analysis and
hazard mitigation ranging from specific
assessment of risk to hazard mitigation associated with both natural and
anthropogenic hazards. Strategic issues
of sustainable development, efficient use of resources, energy economics
and education are also of interest.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers are invited on the topics outlined and Abstracts should be
submitted no later than 17 February 1998.
Abstracts should state clearly the purpose, results and conclusions of
the work to be described in the final paper.
The final paper should emphasise results of work wherever possible,
rather than simply methodology. The final
acceptance will depend upon the full-length paper.
SELECTED CONFERENCE TOPICS
Estimation of Risks
Data Collection and Analysis
Risk Modelling with Spatial Statistics
Data Collection and Structural Analysis
Mathematical Modelling of Risk
