      One way to combine inverse modeling and geostatistics is to
      geostatistically simulate hydrofacies using an indicator approach and then
      use the inverse flow model to estimate parameter values (e.g.,
      transmissivity) within each hydrofacies. For a few examples see these
      references:

      McKenna, S.A. and E.P. Poeter, 1995, Water Resources Research,
      31(12). pp. 3229-3240.

      Poeter, E.P. and S.A. McKenna, 1995, Ground Water, 33(6) pp. 899-904.

      The inverse flow modeling software MODFLOWP is available at:
      http://water.usgs.gov/software/ground_water.html and the GSLIB
      programs offer a number of ways to do geostatistical indicator simulation.

      If you are more interested in inverse modeling of continuous variables (not
      already discretized into hydrofacies) I would recommend you look at the
      recent work of Jaime Gomez-Hernandez and his students at Universidad
      Politecnica de Valencia.
